June 24, 2018: SCANDINAVIAN MIDSOMMAR
The day was perfect as SAHSWI celebrated at Heidelberg Park in the Milwaukee area…sunshine, a nice breeze, shade…in a brand new venue for us. More than 200 people joined us in decorating and raising our new majstång designed and constructed by members George Lofgren and Ray Shoberg.
Flower crowns abounded as many learned the technique of creating crowns and many expressed memories of the beauty of flowers crowns made in past years. Children and adults joined musicians in the procession to raise the majstång and dance traditional dances around it. Swedish Folk Music and Norwegian Folk Dancers entertained us for the afternoon.
The Kubb game area presented an opportunity to learn the history of theViking game and to play the game. A child size Kubb court was also set up to include younger family members in the Kubb experience.
We hope all who attended enjoyed the Scandinavian Midsommar Celebration as much as Swedish American Historical Society of Wisconsin did in presenting it. We thank all the many volunteers who helped in the presentation.
The majstång and supplies are packed away and we look forward to seeing you all at our 2019 Scandinavian Midsommar Celebration.
